Waxing, um...DOWN THERE?

so, shaving is annoying and icky, and i think waxing is a better choice, but i want to know if it hurts as much as everyone says, or thats just exaggeration, and also if there are anything health things i should know about? also, if theres a special at home waxing kit thats especially good, what is it? thanks!
